78'' Extra

Got 6 fantastic flights in today on the Extra(over 70 minutes of flying!). I showed up at the field around 11AM and there was nobody there but me! It was a little overcast and there was a slight breeze but nothing that would bother my Extra.

Since it was just me i changed my timer from 8 minutes to 13 and i still landed with a nice reserve in the tank. It helped that i was doing plenty of low and slow, taking advantage of being at the field alone. I probably could have flown 20 minutes easy.

I also found out that flipping the prop backwards a few times(about 3)then flipping forward would help get the engine to start the right way more consistently. It's weird flipping the prop backwards though and i'm sure i'll get some strange looks when there are others at the field to see me flip it backwards.

I keep forgetting to bring my SFGs to the field but i'll be sure to bring them next time. I had a blast today!

Sounds like a great session. Thanks for the continued feedback on the GT33.

I played with my GT33 and flipping and it started backwards yesterday 2 different times, but then started forward as soon as killed the ignition and flipped it again. Did not get the 60 out though. I will try the backward flip deal. I assume you did them ignition off. The GT22 should go onto the Velox this week. Actual flying time will be very limited as that work thing keeps getting in way.

Actually i flipped it backwards with the ignition on :veryshocked:

I'm going to upgrade my 1.5'' servo arms on the elevators to 1.75" arms to get some more throw. I get about 45* now but i should get an extra 10* of throw with the longer arms. Should be pretty sweet since the pitch authority is already really good at 45*.

Also, i'm almost done with the pipe set up :)

Hmmmmm and i thought that the 70'' Extra would have MORE pitch authority because it's an EXP. I feel the pitch is very nice on the 78''. Not excessive but not lacking. Maybe i'll stick with my 78'' for now.

What setup would you run with 12s 3300s? I have a few 6s 3300s and would love to double them up for a 78'' MXS.

Matt, enterprise, let me fly his 70" "exp" the other day and I put "exp" in quotes since it seems it is a first gen exp and the others are later, more refined designs. Don't get me wrong, it's a very nice flying plane and would be wonderful for someone flying precision and IMAC. But, coming from a 60" exp or a 78 (which I hope to have set up soon when DA gets that darn 35 out!) it is a little tame. Hone I think you may get bored with it. IMO.

Hmm, well i guess i'll just stick with the 78'' for now and get a 60'' EXP for flying up the hill.

Getting closer.

I love the 70 EXP: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I6QmLWVR7P0

To me, it flies the most like a 35% or 40% airplane of any of the 70 inch stuff out there and it's the most precise. However I like the 78 more and the 60's are more convenient and more violent.

+1 You crystallized my thoughts! I don't think that's the first time either. Lol. Not having the good fortune to fly the 35 and 40% I could only guess.
But in all fairness Cody we could put a trainer with huge dihedral in the wing in your hands and you'd make it look good. :)

And the results after reviewing the video response- EXACTLY!
Beautiful airframe for this type of flying, no arguments. Very nice btw ( as usual).
Lets just say (and I don't he'd argue) I wouldn't want to be an elevator on Matt's plane! (Ouch!) Lol
