78'' Extra

Thanks, i appreciate you following my progress. I had a lot of help getting everything set up. I'm using a Vess 20B right now but will probably try a Falcon 21x8 soon.

The good thing is DA must be trying REALLY hard to get it right if they're taking this long. It will have to be pretty good, especially for what it will end up costing.

If you notice in the video the engine starts the first flip in the right direction. This was the third flight of the day, the engine was sitting for 5-10 minutes since the last flight before that flip. It's been like that since i leaned it out after break-in and installed the pipe. Hopefully it stays that way but it's starting forward consistently and it takes very little effort. I could flip it with 2 fingers and start it if i wanted to(i tried and it works :) )

I'm sure a piped DLE-35 would be pretty sick as well and i'd actually really like to see that setup on this plane. Sounds like a good match.

Got 10 flights on the Extra today. The flight time is really starting to add up on this airframe. I'm really looking forward to putting this setup in a 78'' MXS.

10 flights? That's awesome... How much time per flight are you averaging?

15 minutes....Loving every minute! It wasn't too windy today either like it has been the last few weeks so i got to really test out the new setup and i really like it. Puts the power right where it needs to be on this plane.

That's really awesome Hone. I'm happy that you're finally able to focus on flying and not fixing!

BUT, it has been cool following your progress through this adventure, and I'm sure you've learned a ton!

Today the same guy dth7 is referring to tried my Falcon 20x7 on his DLE-35 with ES pipe and got 8260 RPM. The speadsheet says 22 lbs of effective thrust or 4hp. I would assume the GT33 puts out similar power. I love the throttle response on the GT33 over any other gasser I have (except maybe the little 10GX)

I got to tach my setup today and i got 7250RPM with the Vess20B. The engine has a few gallons through it so i don't think i'll pick up much more RPM but it's right where we want and you can tell when you fly it. It idles reliably at 1800 RPM

I also got to fly with the longer 1.75'' arms on the elevators and it made a nice difference. The throw didn't increase too much but in the air it definitely helped. I love it, i know some folks want an EXP upgrade on this plane before they get it but i don't think it needs it IMO. They might as well call this thing an EXP cause it really performs like one. It's SO good.

I agree with you on the throttle response Matt, the OS has fantastic response. I would like to try a Xoar 21x8 or Vess 21A just to see how it does but i'm very happy with the current setup.

Ordered a new cowl and wheel pants to freshen up my Extra. I can't wait :) It's going to look great. Now that i have the pipe installed i can have a really clean cutout on the cowl. I like that the pipe is black cause you don't even notice the bottom is open when you see the bottom of the plane in the air.

My Extra probably could use some graphics but i don't know what to get

Hone, I too have enjoyed following along with "Extra" emphasis since we have the same airframe. Santi set me up with a graphics package that I have to install. It's a modified star layout. I'll post when I finish (it's my first "real" vinyl job and I've been procrastinating with good flying weather here). Ordering the DLE 35 today with a 20x6 Hover prop. Enterprise is my "prop emporium" so there will be several to try. Sounds like the 20x6 or 20 B might be the winner. Just put CF gear and new pants on it and have the ES 30 pipe and a new cowl ready. I've been flying my 48 MXS and 60 extra a little more "controlled" in prep for the gas and really having fun doing the maneuvers with the airfoil rather than brute power. Shoulder rolls have been my favorite.
Thanks again for sharing. This thread has been nice since it has stayed on subject and avoided most of the "forum drama". "Go fly!"

Ordered everything for the 78 setup. Have secured experience help. Hoping to have it up by the first week in June!
