Congrats Daren! Sounds like quite an adventure and kudos to friends willing to sacrifice a servo to get a good maiden landing!
Love the smiles...that says it all!

thats awesome Darren! shes a beautiful plane, glad there was no damage, very glad.

so it takes a gallon or two to breakin these motors. on the 2 and 4 strokes ive messed with before, usually half gallon max and they were broke in. But i hvent messed with plane engines yet

One indication that break in has neared completion is when the engine stops spitting black crap out of the exhaust when properly tuned, which is normally aluminum debris from the engine wearing in.

The motor runs great though, I think the ring, reeds, and sealing made a difference.

Me too! I'm planning to run about 2 gal of pennzoil aircooled through it then Stihl ultra. So far so good.

Just checking my gas can today. 5 flights avg 10 min each. 1/3 gal used. $1.50 for nearly an hour of fun and some thrilling moments. Awesome.

the more I see and read about this plane, the more I like it. Looks like if I build one it would cost about the same as a used 50cc'er. one thing I was looking at was the servos. On a plane this size the servos are pretty much stuck with this size? On a 50cc I could use those in a bigger plane?

It uses standard size servos. So you can use the same servos that are used in the 50cc and bigger planes. I'm using HS-7955s.

GHoffman can chime in here but he has the 91" extra and tried the same servo on the wings and he did get blow back on ailerons. Not sure what he went with.
I think a better way to look at it is transport and flying sites. If I had a bigger vehicle or trailer and a bigger flying area I would go with a 50cc. This size gives me the best of both worlds transportability of a 60 and performance and damn close presentation of a 50 cc. The older 50 cc's used to be this size or close to it. My two cents.
Headed to a fun fly tomorrow and managed to squeeze the 78, a 60, 48, 2 EDFs and a 43" foamie I want to sell plus a gas can, batteries, field box a couple chairs, umbrella, camera pack and small cooler all in my Outback. Going to have to inhale to close the door!
Can't wait to fly the 78 more. Hey Hone, where were you balancing it. I'm on the wing tube and it seems slightly tail heavy. I added another batt tray forward to check it out.
