78'' Extra

The 7955's were totally inadequate for the ailerons on the 91 EF Extra, not even close. I replaced them with Savox 2270HV brushless and it was like a new plane. On the rudder, I use a single Futaba BLS-157HV. That servo is great, for even the 104 AJS rudder, with a DA-120 pulling it very hard, doing full throttle KE loops.

Me too! I'm planning to run about 2 gal of pennzoil aircooled through it then Stihl ultra. So far so good.

Sounds like a good plan. I felt my completely stock motor was pretty broken in after 2 gallons. I'm guessing the bow.man ring will be done in less than one. As for oil... I'm using cheap walmart marine oil. It is an ashless synthetic blend and has been working great for me. I plan to keep running it 32:1 forever. Always plenty of lube and I like the power I am getting for my 70 slick. If I get something a bit bigger like the 78 I might have to look into a pipe.

I'm not stressing (no hovers or hard pull outs) it right now but can tell its pulling good power so far. With a pipe it will really accelerate in vertical. Having a great time with this plane. Going to have to rethink my fleet plans. After 6 flights on my first gasser it's everything I thought it would be. May be thinking another 78 (read MXS!) and a 60 or two with a couple EDFs for goofing around!

I am moving more towards a balanced fleet in 30cc I think. The electric has it's good points as well and 6s 5000 is a great size for power systems. I flew my electric more at FLI than any of my other planes. Maybe it was just because I was comfortable down low with it and I could come to the flight line and do pack after pack. I have also gotten spoiled flying one at a time and being able to hear my gasser and that was not always the case at FLI with all the activity.

I really like the idea of doing a 12s 3300-4000 setup on a 78 and share packs with the 60" size.

Had a blast with 78 at the tri club flyin up here at Plum Island Airport. An annual event where they close a small airport out near the ocean. Open flying for all types and we had quite the mix this year. No helis thou? The 3 D community was well represented in our two popups. "Enterprise, myself and "GHoffman" had the EF extras from 60-104 covered plus Matt's 110 Yak and Gary's 104 Slick. Not to go off topic (will post some pics and vids in the Extreme thread. Let's just say the 78 is Saweeet! The DLE 35 RA was running fantastic in high 90s and humidity on Sat then in 70s and drier on Sun. I did pull on the Giants and the bigger they are the easier but the 78/ 30-40cc size is perfect for me right now. I couldn't believe how easy it hovered compared to the 60. I could almost close my eyes! Vid soon. It'll be down low soon I'm sure. Will be competing in first IMAC with it in AUG.

That's fantastic! I'm really happy that the 78 is running so well, and that you got to take part in a big event. I know you were bummed about missing New Jersey, but hopefully this took the sting out a little bit. I also think it's great you're going to be competing next month, best of luck Daren!!

Hopefully i'll have mine flying again soon. I was planning on using it to compete this year as well but i don't think that it's going to happen. Maybe next year.
