    Worth repairing an ignition wire?

I have a DLE120 with a damaged ignition wire. Is it worth trying to replace the wire or should I just replace the whole module? I'm strongly leaning towards the latter... In that case, do I go with the stock DLE one or an Rcezl? I've had good experiences with Rcexl in my smaller planes and it's...

It was fun while it lasted

My 104" Slick is no more. Total loss of control in high speed KE pass. Probably electronics overheating due to proximity to canisters. This one hurt, I'm not gonna lie...

    SmartFly Power Expander Pro question

Are the servo outputs individually protected on a SmartFly Power Expander? In other words, if I short plus and ground on one output, does that affect the entire positive rail or is there circuitry that isolates the shorted output?

    Plane collection at SFO

Every time I fly to or from San Francisco, I'm amazed by the big models hanging from the ceiling by the food court in terminal 3. I've never had time to look closer, though. Until today, when I got to the airport a bit early. They look like they're a mix of 6-10 ft wing span. Most of them have...

    Throttle weirdness

I just can't seem to catch a break these days. Thought I should re-maiden my rebuilt 71" AJ Slick. It flew just as wonderful as I remembered, except... Whenever I'm at or near full throttle and move any control surface quickly, the motor stutters. Aileron, rudder or elevator. Doesn't matter...

Radio brownout - Lost another pair of underwear (and confidence in the plane)

I keep having issues with my 104" AJ Slick. This time I had a radio brownout/loss of power/something. Lost all control for about 2 seconds and got it back just in time to save the plane and brought it in for a twitchy but successful landing. And now I have zero confidence in the plane. The...

    Deadstick and close call

Close call a couple of weekends ago. Not entirely happy with my save, but the damage was limited to a cracked landing gear.

3DHS Slick eating Savox 1270TG servos

Today I noticed severe flutter on the tail surfaces on high speed passes. I checked the surfaces and it seems the linkages are tight, but the servos have a significant amount of slop. I think the problem may be that I have single servos on the tail surfaces and while the torque is enough, they...

    Less pitch for easier landings?

Hi! I'm a Giant Scale noob... I still need a lot of runway to land my 104" 3DHS Slick. If you've ever flown one, you know it's extremely floaty and doesn't give up energy easily. Even with idle set to around 1700 rpm on the ground and a fairly shallow glide slope, I'm having problems bleeding...

Pro flow canisters on a 104" 3DHS Slick

I just got a set of pro-flow cans that I'm about to install in my 104" Slick. First of all, these things are works of art! The welding, the finish and the precision is just amazing! My first issue is working out what mounts to use. The wooden ones I have are for a 3W L/70. The cans fit with...

**sticky** Walbro service and tuning manual

While looking for something completely different, I stumbled across this service and tuning manual from Walbro. It's an awesome source of information including the theory of operation, cleaning and overhaul, troubleshooting and tuning of Walbro carbs. Since DLE carbs are virtually identical to...

Booma Intellimatch - A game changer for ganged servos!

Introduction Servo matching on ganged surfaces always seemed like black magic performed only by the seasoned giant scale pros. So when I got my first 100cc-plane and had to set up ganged aileron surfaces, I felt a bit intimidated. To make matters worse, doing this matching in my transmitter...

Does a tuned pipe reduce noise?

I have an Aerobeez 88" Slick with a DA50. I would call the power "just enough" for that plane and I can't afford to lose any horse powers. We're trying to reduce the noise at our field, so I'm thinking of replacing my REALLY LOUD single pipe side dump with something a little less noisy...

    NJSwede stopping by

Hi! Some of you may know me as a user of most forums and an admin of one particular forum. Anyway, I had to stop by and check out what the buzz is about. Looks like a cozy place. I'm not the world's biggest giant scale pilot, just three 25%-ers (does that even count as giant scale?) and...
