Scale 50cc Scratch Build From My Own Design Revisited

I guess some pictures would help. I have no idea why the forth picture made the primer look pink.

Scale 50cc Scratch Build From My Own Design Revisited

After my failure with the louvers, I decided to cut them off and make the hatch smooth other than the raised area for the pipe. It worked out pretty well. After I removed the louvers I laid down several layers of glass and resin and let it sit overnight. This morning I trimmed the edges then...

Scale 50cc Scratch Build From My Own Design Revisited

I worked on my pipe hatch a lot this weekend. I've pretty much got it finished, but it's not exactly what I had planned. The original plan was to incorporate louvers into the hatch so I carved and sanded them into my foam block along with a raised section to cover the end of the pipe that...

Thanks for posting the link to the Flyingfoam.com. That could come in handy for some of the scratch build projects that are rolling around in my head.:way_to_go:

    3D JAG's 35% Carden Edge

I've got a bunch of buddies that are industrial wire-men, so I've heard the super 33 speech. :)

Scale 50cc Scratch Build From My Own Design Revisited

I want to stick with something in the 30's era racer colors since it's my take on it. This one is in the lead right now.

Scale 50cc Scratch Build From My Own Design Revisited

I finished sanding the second wing last night so it was time to move on to a project I've been putting off for a while. I need to make a hatch to cover the tuned pipe exit. The hole in the fuse needed to be big enough to allow the pipe stinger to turn. The pipe installs from the front, but it...

    Show Me the Biplanes!!!!

Funny! I still have to finish my current 3 year+ project. Also this is just in the "Is this what I really want to build next" stage. I'm trying to figure out what I want to build and it's between several different projects including other bipes, a P-40B and a bigger much cooler scratch built...

    Show Me the Biplanes!!!!

I was thinking 60cc. Unlike a Pitts, or an Ultimate, the fuse is pretty short compared to the span. That is how I determined the size of the airplane. A fuse of that length will fit on my current workbench easily, but if I go much bigger I'd need to make some changes.

    Show Me the Biplanes!!!!

I've been playing around with the 3 view that @Bipeguy03 posted of the Culp Special. I'm trying to get a feel for the size I would want to build. I imported the image into TurboCad and it turns out all three views are a slightly different scale, but after I fixed that they were good enough to...

Scale 50cc Scratch Build From My Own Design Revisited

I've been sanding for the last few evenings and have all the tail surfaces, ailerons, and one wing ready to paint. I plan to finish the second wing tonight then I have to make a hatch to cover the tuned pipe exit in the fuse. After that I'll get the fuselage sanded.

I imagine that would work well, especially with flex additive in the mix. Terry, I'm missing your build threads. Anything in the works?

Scale 50cc Scratch Build From My Own Design Revisited

I should have brushed primer with flex additive over the seams, but I went with something easy........... and paid for it in the long run.
