    Yippee! What the postman brought

Picked up a vintage kit today. Bill Winter’s Heron kitted by DSC. looks pretty neat and should be able to cut a lot of wieght going with modern electronics. Also included in the box was a roll of transparent red Solar Film. Never worked with the stuff before so should be interesting.

Ahh yes I forgot my input about the servo wires. One option for sure is going in the tube but yes it weakens in a bit. Another option like mike said is just to tape them which is what I normally end up doing. Last option but it makes things very difficult if you ever need to replace a wire it to...

The 20cc has larger birds build different. Tube is glued in while building. On the smaller profiles we normally don’t glue the tube in until final assembly as they have a one piece wing and the tube needs to go through it. Thus we cover the fuse then glue the tube in. Not sure I follow what...

Looks good. All I ever do for hinges is add extra hard point where each hinge will be located.

I like ultracote but still always default back to the hobbyking brand covering. Dirt cheap and goes on almost just like ultra.

I have always mounted ignition on same side as head of engine for ease. I mount receiver in the opening in the fuse between wings. Mount battery in wing opposite of engine. As far as lateral balance it’s something I have never done unless I’m having to carry a lot of trim on the ailerons at...

Easiest thing for spar if you want carbon and to be simple and the way I have done for every other version of this plane. Just get a piece of square stock that is the right size. Setup your bandsaw to rip it right down the middle. Then glue it all back together with some carbon fiber two between...

I see now. Yeah I would change the location of the wing or play with the moments as it would throw off the ability of this plane to tumble like it does.

Not sure I follow the question there. Could you explain a little more what you meen??

Since you did the elevator in two pieces then I say do not glue any of it in until after covering. Will be much easier that way.

Looks great. Like how you did the rudder and I will say it will hell big time. The way I did it on the last plane this size is the rudder and vertical where built out of 3/8” stock so it’s all thinner than the fuse to begin with.

That’s gonna open up a lot of space in the engine bay not needing the shock towers anymore. Looks awesome and keep it up.

Snoopy basically when you cut the le portion of the elevator don’t cut the notch in it for the hardwood joiner. Instead what I have done before is build it all then setup a 1/8” router bit in my dremel with the router attachment and rout a channel about 8” long. Then just glue in a piece of 1/8”...

That can be done just makes covering more of a PITA

Scale 20cc Edge 540 Profile “The Glitter”

Did you just bend the LE stick to match the angle on the center support? If so I like it and will try that on my next build. I have always just cut and glued two separate sticks. Helpful hint for when you build the elevator. Have the tristock on hand you plan to use in the hinge line area. Use...

So you guys check out this handmade joiners bow saw a buddy made and gave me this evening with both a Japanese and western style blade for it. It's all made out of hard maple except for the tension block that is just southern yellow pine.

Looks great. Don't forget the lightening hole in the block at the tail. Every bit of weight removed back there helps. Man I have to say the laminated top piece looks amazing.
