Looked inside my plane to see if the styrofoam is cracked how the hell did you ever see that I cannot even get in there to look. Will have look again but I think it is ok I hope.
Must say looking through your pictures again that receiver holder does look good.

Thinking I may get a syringe and squirt some gorilla glue in there. My photos are not that good, but I do have young eyes lol.

I purchased a new radio a couple months ago. It’s a DeeForce / JR radio. Have not had chance to play with it yet hopefully soon.

Hey everyone, new to the forum. Just ordered my Timber today. Read through the entire thread, really good stuff. I'll be running a DLE35, X-Cub landing gear (main and tail). I'm not looking for 3D performance (yet), so I believe it will still fly okay with the 35 on it. I did want to ask everyone what they are using for servos. I just want to fly STOL, and not get too crazy. Some servos I've looked at, for a whole set cost as much as the plane. I can't afford that currently. So, any input would be great! I'm running a DX8 transmitter, haven't settled on a receiver yet.

Awesome!! Hope to see some pictures of your build as well! Servos are expensive no doubt, I got a used set I found online that are 100% overkill. A $70 servo is the baseline price for a Metal Gear, Digital, Coreless, High Torque Servo. It really depends on a couple main factors: Flying style and Battery Voltage 6.6 or 7.4/8. Running a gasoline engine, you'll want Metal Gears that are capable of 200+ oz/in, everything else depends on the budget. The A6320 is basically a 250oz/in servo @ 7.4V and is brushless for $80... it's actually not bad.

With all that said, What batteries will you be using? What price point are you thinking of? Are you considering a Powersafe Receiver?

Not a bad way to go for Coreless, and is good on 6.6V and 8V, super fast, enough torque and $10 cheaper than the A6320's

If you want to use a brushed servo, they are cheaper... draw backs are longevity and efficiency. BUT the price is $45-50 each
Cheaper, 3pole, enough torque at 7.4v, digital:

Savox makes some great servos for 6V if you are using a LiFe/A123 battery setup. BUT with so many servos working, and long runs of wire, it is good practice to run a higher voltage, and they are still in the $70 range. SA-1256TG comes to mind. I've heard of people having issues with powersafe receivers and savox before.

I could keep listing servos forever, but the fundementals of what voltage, budget, and style are factors that need to be determined. Overall, I don't think you'll find a Digital Coreless/Brushless servo for much less than $70, You'll have to go with a 3-pole motor or used to save the piggy bank.

This will be a fairly slow build, getting it done between shifts. I'm looking at a fairly relaxed, sport flying style. Maybe upgrade as my flying improves. I'll post pics when I get started

Oh man, that's a bummer! I'm excited for you to get in the air. I'm starting to narrow down my RX and servo choices. I'm leaning towards the AR8010T with all the telemetry gadgets. (It's what I have available) With a Smart Fly Competition 12 Plus power expander. That should give me all the power I need for servos. I've been looking at the Promodeler servos you suggested, just need to make a decision. Trying to stay light, running the DLE35. I'm hoping that the X-Cub sprung main and AirTops 8" will help with balance. The rest, I'm trying to keep as light as possible. This is my first build of this size, just taking my time and feeling it out. Been reading as much material as possible. Does anyone have experience with a similar set up that I mentioned (rx & powerbox) any points or concern I should worry about? Thanks

We'll gent's, it's here! Went through and looked at everything. Looks really good, no canopy crack, foam on bottom of fuselage isn't broke. Definitely going to go through it with some CA and ensure joints are glued. I've got a few really loose joints, 1/8th inch gap at least! Gonna do some mitigation and add some braces. Sent my sprung main off to the sand blaster, will paint it when I get it back. Hardly a single wrinkle in the covering, pleasantly surprised.

Glad to hear it survived shipment!
Note there is a bunch of tristock included with the plane for the electric motor mount to use for bracing the gas engine.

I’m using Futaba gear, so I couldn’t advise on the setup.
