I LOVE how it turned out. I chopped about 20 mm off the end of the lower bar where the springs are attached and drilled a new hole about 15 mm closer in to the springs. It allows the gear to sit about an inch and a half higher for better clearance, also the stance doesn’t look so wide and it gives a slight camber to the tires. Basically it looks like a lot of STOL/bush full scale planes you see flying like the guys from flying cowboys. I like it so much better! Much more scale looking and better clearance. Now I am going to try the mod with switching out the metal springs for the bungee cords. This should make it the ultimate for articulating and better STOL drop ins! cheers!

Control horns all in -- getting ready to mount servos etc. AKNick I'm going with 2 inch arms on the wing, and 3.5 inch offset rudder arm. That's what worked for you correct? 1.5" ok for elevators? Is the consensus that the wing attach blind nut needs to be re-glued?
Thanks
Brad

I used NWRC 2” Servo Arms utilizing the second to last hole at 1.75” all around except the rudder which was a 3.5” offset.
Geometry is terrible otherwise... especially if you want large deflection flaps while servo matching full span ailerons.

Agree with you Nick the geometry is not correct I just cannot get the flaps to match the ailerons perfectly and also get them to work as flaps as required.
Ok trying to get plane lighter change the batteries from 5000 to 4000 to see how it works. Also change up to 95c what a difference the plane much more agile and much more responsive at low and slow, like the change.

I wanted to share with you guys my success today modifying the Xcub gear. I absolutely hated these gear when I first got them! They are WAY to stiff and unforgiving when left stock. So after chopping and drilling the lower tubes yesterday to make the gear sit up a little taller, I tried the bungee cord mod today. I couldn't find the 3mm bungees, so I opted to use some 5mm bungees from Ace. I ended up using 4mm X 30MM bolts. I tried numerous configurations to see which one would give me the best absorption and rebound while also keeping firm enough to hold the plane up under it's weight. First I tried bungees mixed with the original metal spring (that was still too stiff). I did one arm at a time and NUMEROUS taxi tests. I finally landed (pardon the pun) on using bungees on only one side of the strut, wrapped twice. In this configuration it still allows for the gear to stay completely extended while parked or taxiing, but flex VERY easily under normal load and rough terrain. Now it is MUCH more like full scale gear, absorbing all the bumps and nasty stuff, while not causing the plane to bounce around or back in to the air on a fast and hard landing. I probably tore the gear apart 6 times today while doing this mod, but it was TOTALLY worth it. Now I absolutely LOVE these gear and they are exactly how I wanted them to be from the start. I was even able to use the original shock boots to cover the bungees to keep with the scale look. Check out the build pics and let me know what you guys think. I am waiting for the wind to die down, so that I can go officially put her in the air and do some crazy STOL drop in landings!

It is always satisfying when you eventually get it to work the way you believe it should. Nice job.
I am still looking for a nice pair of wheels for my Timber, but still looking but not for big 8 inch balloon tiers, just something better than came with the kit.
