I have the fuselage on it's side to fit the right wing panel, the fuselage is screwed to a 2" x 8" at the firewall and blocked level. Made a little wigget to mark the wing, 3/4" high with a piece of 1/32" plywood to fit under the gap on the bottom. Once marked the contour was cut with a saw.
More of the same. The small gap at the back will get filled with balsa, the leading and trailing edges installed then the 1/8 lite ply root rib will be added along with the wing extensions. Going to cut and finish the ailerons and flaps before installing the full sheeting over the inner 4 bays. And oh yes forgot about the wing tips. More carving and sanding.
The G10 sheet arrived and I may fiddle with that today. The engine is due today, should be a good day.
The lite ply root rib was cut about 1/4" big with material included for the wing extension. 1"x 1" x 1/2" balsa blocks were inset in the foam for the locating pins, Gorilla glue applied to the foam side and the root rib was wetted to promote foaming. The wing was weighted in place while the glue cured. The tube was lubed with Vasoline to hopefully prevent accidental gluing! Hopefully the masking tape will minimize glue on the sheeting.
Trimmed and sanded the root rib to shape and began the wing extension. Made a few prototype flap hinges today, first time working with G10, learned a few things along the way, more fiddling is necessary. Grandsons are coming over after school and staying the night, my shift has ended!
