Which Gas Engine will you use!?!?

Got ready to go flying and ended up having to do some maintenance. New choke rod, and my lower ply engine mount seam was popped. Mixed up some epoxy and added some tri-stock.

the firewall is different on mine, has balsa Triangle stock both sides and top & bottom, plus thin ply strips down the sides, so they must have made a changes.

Interesting! It's like they dropped the floor 1/2". I had Ali ask me about some issues I was having being one of the earlier designs and he said he was trying to fix them at the factory. Nice to see that they keep improving the design.

I did notice you're flying the LE devices and I'm not yet - I wonder if that has something to do with your down elevator trim??

yes the upshot is the motor seems to sit lower using the tick marks they give you on the pattern, had to carve away the triangle stock to mount the engine and subsequently I think I got the engine mounted a little low the first time. LE slats, that's a good question, they do add drag at speed, but don't know if they should affect pitch. I mulled over putting them on or not and since I have seen they really only affect the roll rate and not 3D performance in general (see Ali's vids) I put them on since I favor the STOL performance anyway, the stall is clean at low speeds, On the first landing I came in high, no throttle and flaired a little high and it just settled in with a slight plop. (you can see in the crappy cell phone video)
So, engine a little higher in relation to the datum and slightly more down thrust, let's see what happens.

I keep looking at my slats. They weren't built very well - one is good enough to throw on, but the other one has a nasty step in the balsa, a crack, and a broken attach point. . . I dont really want to recover, also no sure why there appears to be no LE airfoil on them... dunno, but it does make me hesitant to put them on.

Mine weren't damaged but there is a subtle flat spot in the airfoil which won't affect anything at this scale, in comparing to a full scale slat they are close but not perfect. There is a lot of debate as to whether at these Reynold's numbers slats do anything to improve the stall, but anecdotal comments by pilots seem to indicate they have a positive effect on the stall on the timber 110.here are some pics of mine. OH and they were not exactly plug and play a lot of sanding and dremeling is required to put them on, I used contact cement so I can get them off if ever I need or want to.

I think there is enough lifting surface on the Slats to provide a little extra wing area, so I'd imagine it cannot hurt. I haven't found of a way that would make them removable without destroying the slat in the process. I was thinking of just ordering them, but at $80 for the pair... forget that!

DISCONTINUED

:cryin: I've looked on Tower Hobbies and Horizon hobby and the plane is no longer available and shows as discontinued. :(

The Timber 110" line has apparently ended unless something online is wrong.

The Prototypes were at Joe Nall Sept 2018
Release date with promotional video May 2019
This thread was created July 2019 and has 125,588 views, 100 pages, and 986 replies!!!! WOW
My timber was flying in September 2019
Fast forward to June 2021 (Two years after the release date - discontinued)

How sad fellas! :grouphug: Never even got to see Horizon hobby floats come to completion!

The big question is... Will there be a Timber 110 EVOLUTION????? :epic:

Well that's typical for Horizon, and the reason I jumped on one when I saw it was in stock at the LHS. Guess I was lucky.

Wow that is a surprise. That did not last long. HH has done this to me before had a plane needed a part and it was discontinued. Remembering the last time it happened I said to my self think before you buy another plane from them, but they did it again.

it's their modus operandi for years. There all molded ASH 31 lasted about a year, but they yanked that for specific structural reasons. That aside they do this all the time, it's not like the old days when manufactures held onto huge inventories or manufactured in house in the US, those days are gone. They have to justify container loads of planes and minimum factory orders to maintain the price, a formula that seems fickle. So I learned if you see a hangar nine plane get it right away or you may miss out. parts are still available at some distributors and even Horizon, so for example the fuse and stabs are available. didn't see the wings. Guess this will be the end of the thread if we all use ours up. The plane in my avatar was a case in point. that was 20 plus years ago, I went to order the 46% Ultimate and it was suddenly out of production, so I was fortunate to find one new in box from a private individual. I'm literally the last guy to get a Timber, at least for purposes of this thread.
