just looked at my gear after the maiden, my landing was not so pretty ,but drop in from about a foot, tires mashed down a bit, gear looked ok, but when I measured between them they had spread over an inch, and that's with my little stretcher bars in place, So i have decided to order the cub gear. (while they are still available). Hoping my 8mm Airtop wheel bearings slip on the axles as they are 5/16" which is 8mm or close. Horizon makes most of their accessories in Vietnam, while the kits come from China. my dealer said he may be able to get another kit if I wanted for now, he is Chinese Filipino and he is somehow getting things direct from China perhaps grey market. but he can't get the accessories as he can't order from Vietnam, so ordered from AeroBertics in the Netherlands.

And good news my eye candy Falcon prop came today. No drill press here, so careful drilling with my hand drill and DLE jig.

So much for the slats debate. ripped right off in flight, doing some rather extreme maneuvers, never saw it come off which is weird, but I noticed a trim change right away, had to put in about 3/8 right aileron and some rudder, wondered why and when I landed found out.IMG20210614071300.jpg

on a positive note, I was able to take out much of the down trim having increased the down thrust and moving the engine up. Carbon prop made a huge difference. had to reduce the idle trim a lot. spins up much faster, pulls better up line, trying to take it a little easy, but failing :) did spins snaps, knife edge, point rolls super easy to fly, only I'm way out of practice.

searched the thread in vein, anybody know if the stock prop clearance on the 60cc Cub gear is less or more than the Timber gear? I saw the shortening mods, but I don't have a shop and drill press any more to do it right. still may attempt it however. I want to protect my precious Falcon prop, it's the only one in the Philippines :)

Not sure, all I could find was my post about shortening the rods and posting the distance with a ruler... BUT that doesn't help you too much as I have different tires. I could measure the distance to the axel from the frame for you. I'm kinda surprised I haven't seen anyone use some carbon gear from an aerobatic plane yet - maybe it looks too funny or something...

I finally did this mod with the tube length shortened only. I feel like my springs are broken in and flex quite well.

I drilled another hole 6-7mm inboard from the other hole on center. I gained just over 1/2” of Prop ground clearance.I am VERY pleased.

On another note I ordered a new prop since mine was missing 1/2” off each side. Got a message and said they were out of stock, but had painted props. I said send me a silver with white tips. Balance was a bit off and there was a lot of paint lumped up near the hub to remove. Just keep that in mind when buying one.

Cleaned up, and a little bevel so it doesn’t hit the other arm.

my new ground clearance!!! Yay!!!

now is sits with a little camber.

very happy!!! Thanks for the idea @FlyingClint

Thanks Nick saw your post, I searched carbon gear and found nothing that looked like it would be the right size, TNT will make me a gear but the tempered 6061 T6 gear is 100 bucks plus 50 shipping, the H9 gear is only about 70 and shipping is a lot less. 4 flights so far and my gear has not spread any more so maybe it has settled to it's normal. May get the cub gear just for a project. Slats are off now and holes patched, see above.

Six flights in and this happened, ouch. Our field is short and a recent adjacent property survey had paced a pole with a small flag on it at least 15' in the air at one end of the field. I completely misjudged the landing and my depth perception was way off I clipped the pole with the left wing. the pole actually snapped off and the plane spun once and dropped to the ground squarely on the spinner. Say what you will about H9 airframes this was amazing that the the only real structural damage was the D-tube at the point of impact. there are some stress cracks around the joiner area, but I had reinforced this area with structural epoxy so just a matter of a little glue and reinforcement there. did crack two windows and the top right corner of the windshield, I think I can disguise this with a cosmetic repair. All in all very lucky on several counts, now for phase 2 Timber with better gear and no slats. BTW flying the timber without slats required no trim adjustments, and I did not notice any different flying characteristics except a faster roll rate. When you watch the video, you can here my flying buddies yelling, they saw it coming, I did not.
